From May 11 to 13 (2026), Assistant Professor Vassiliki Bountziouka and Assistant Professor Stathis Kaloudis carried out a professional visit to the University of Porto, Portugal, within the framework of the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme.
During the visit, the Department members were hosted by Professor Sara Rodrigues of the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the University of Porto. As part of the visit’s activities, lectures were delivered on advanced statistical methods in nutritional assessment and dietary pattern evaluation, as well as on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning tools in food science and nutrition. The lectures were hosted both at the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences and at the Institute of Public Health of the same University.
In parallel, meetings were held with the departmental coordinator of the Erasmus Office, during which an agreement was reached to establish a collaboration framework allowing for the mutual exchange of students between the two Universities for the purpose of attending courses as part of their studies. Additionally, possibilities for research collaboration were discussed, as well as the future joint submission of funding proposals to European programmes.
The visit also served as an opportunity to present and promote the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Transforming Nutrition with Artificial Intelligence,” which will be organized by the Department of Food Science and Nutrition from September 28 to October 2 in Lemnos. The programme focuses on the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence in modern nutritional science and is aimed at students and early-stage researchers from the fields of nutrition, dietetics, food science, and related health sciences.
The visit made a meaningful contribution to strengthening the Department’s internationalization, opening new prospects for educational exchanges, research synergies, and joint European initiatives.
